The Snow is Here!
The snow is here!  Plenty of it, in fact, at Big White already.  Fortunately, after a few consecutive days of snow, yesterday the sun came out providing a spectacular backdrop for the wedding that took place at Crescendo.  Congratsto the newlyweds!

Not many new techy gadgets at Crescendo this year, but we’ve made considerable improvements and upgrades to enhance you experience (as if Crescendo needed any enhancements).   What types of enhancements?  Below are just a few.

Theatre Enhancements
Enhancements have been made to the 7.1 Surround Sound System in the theatre.  New amp and pre-amp providing better sound separation.  The two subwoofers that are now separated in stereo, in fact, totally rock!

Not to forget that last year we canned all our DVDs, and now have a 24 Terabyte movie server, with more than 850 movies that stream digitally into the Theatre.  Check-out our constantly growing selection at http://c.mymovies.dk/perlman (password:  2504486299).

Other Enhancements
Custom cabinetry and cushioned seating in the garage have been added for your Ping Pong, Wii, and Workout experiences.

UV tinting on the Pool & Ski Entry Doors, and custom fit shears on the glass block staircase, now make the home’s climate more controllable for your comfort.

1000 count and 1500 count Egyptian Cotton Sheets have been added to provide the ultimate in coziness at the end of the day.

We’ve added several small appliances to our gourmet kitchen (most at the request of our guests), and we have a brand new BBQ grille.

Crescendo has also undergone a cosmetic overhaul.  Practically the entire home has been repainted, the cabinetry re-stained, and the floors stripped and re-varnished.  Also, check this out.  Our two art walls are finally no longer bare.

Direct Flights from LAX
Great news also for those living in Southern California.  United Airlines, beginning 19 December, will be flying direct to/from Los Angles (LAX) and Kelowna (YLW).  Leaving LA at 7:00 pm and arriving in Kelowna at 10:00 pm, means that even the workaholic can fit in a weekend of world-class skiing at Big White, and pamper themselves in a world-class home.

Watch for Deals or Take a Tour
Remember, for those of you who can take advantage of last-minute specials, I’ll be posting those on Crescendo’s blog and also on our Facebook page.

Also, if you know when you are going to be at Big White, and you’d like to tour Crescendo, please let me know.  Especially if I’m at Crescendo at the time, I’d be happy to show you around and, perhaps, share some wine and some gaming.  After all, I’m always looking for new victims to beat in Ping Pong.

Spectacular Wedding at Crescendo

The Ceremony

What an incredible Wedding!  Two days ago (24 November 2012), the couple said their vows, uniting in love in front of their family and friends.  With the backdrop of the groomed slopes and the Monashee Mountains, the even was truly magical.

Hi Mitch,

Thank you so much for the wonderful experience at your house.  I’ve been to Big White every year for the past 6 years and I must say this is the best house we have ever stayed!  The house was amazing and the location is awesome!  The best part was indoor/outdoor pool, makes it so much easier to get into the pool!!!  Anyone thinking going to Big White should definitely stay there if you get a chance.  Our group had such a wonderful time and we hope to stay there again in the future!  Thanks Mitch

It’s a wonderful experience to stay in SkiCrescendo:  the facilities in the house are just excellent, especially the indoor/outdoor Jacuzzi.  My family and friends just had so much fun.  It’s the best place to stay in Big White!!

03-01-2012 (Danny)
The Club house is beautiful and wonderful; especially the house has the big movie screen and the bar for drinking wine.

03-27-2012 (Girard)
Thank you, Mitch, for the amazing accommodations at SkiCrescendo!  Your house has all the modern features I could imagine, as well as several I never would have imagined.  First class all the way, from the heated flooring throughout, to poker, bumper pool, and ping pong, to the theater room, and of course the famous indoor/outdoor hot tub.  We also loved the ski in – ski out access and extremely short walk to the nightlife.  Your home truly has it all!

03-27-2012 (Ailina)
The Crescendo is everything you can possibly dream of and more… Thank you so much for a memorable vacation!

03-27-2012 (Alex)
Just spent 4 days at this amazing house.  The views, indoor/outdoor hot tub, comfort, and location are all perfect.  5-Stars.

03-28-2012 (Bethany)
Such an amazing time at Crescendo this past week with family and friends.  Snow was soft and fun to play in, beds were soft & comfy, and great to sleep in (tried 3 different beds… there are so many to choose from!  So happy we stayed at Crescendo – it was massive, right on the slopes, has the best hot tub on the mountain.  Thanks for making our stay ever the better!

04-01-2012 (Mallika)
Thanks for the amazing time SkiCrescendo!!!  It was a fabulous, fun-filled week and I miss everyone (and the snow) already!  Will post some pictures as soon as I can!

04-02-2012 (Jordanna)
Such a wonderful time this past week! What a great place for families to stay and trade off with the kids during the day. A true vacation, which I didn’t think was possible with 2 little ones.  Gracias!!!

04-02-2012 (Marty)
This past week at Crescendo went by too fast!  It was hard to leave yesterday.  The convenient access to the entire mountain coupled with some really fun and varied terrain covered in fresh snow almost every day of our trip added up to a memorable vacation for sure.  And Avery, our 2 year old, really loved the daily dips in the pool!

04-03-2012 (Erin)
The Hurley family loves SkiCrescendo!  Thanks for a wonderful visit in a beautiful house with amazing people and gorgeous snow. Good times!

04-06-2012 (Amanda)
Awesome snowy weather, great mountain and great house to ski right onto the slopes.  I am really missing the hot tub!  Great to see old and meet new friends!  Thanks for the great memories!

09-21-2012 (Jordanna)
Can’t wait to head back here for another winter of pure fun and relaxation!  Someday I’ll make it up for the summer as well.

You know this place is great. Ya, you hear it all the time, but, this time is a different perspective, from a “test drive” point of view.  As I said before, I can appreciate the time invested in making this beast tame enough to be user friendly, for the not so tech savvy people.  I’ve been alone in here for approximately 24 hours, and what I’ve come to appreciate are the little things…for example, getting the light settings for mood arrangements, and what makes the individual rooms “look good.”

Right from the excitement of seeing her as you drive up Rockridge, and gawk saying “WOW is that the place?!”… To trying to take in all you can in a short stay I appreciate it much more as I have been able to enjoy this place alone, before guests show, who will share the same “Wow…is this the place?” excitement.

It sure is a sweet place, and certainly is not a house, or chalet, or any other lame title…she has her own identity…Crescendo.  She truly is a magical beast.  Thank you!

Definitely the worst part of Crescendo is leaving.  This was by far the best stay for me. Leanne…not so much.  She got sick :( .
Anyhow, I just want to thank you a million times.  Everything was perfect.  My guests were amazed, and very respectful of the house.  They helped clean the house up to minimal wrap-up, (a bit of laundry to finish, and the garbage was brought to garage), for Sheila.

I thought of one thing that would look awesome.  Great room ceiling, imagine a HUGE diameter fan, like an airplane propeller, or one made of skis and/or snowboard.  :)

Crescendo is awesome!!!  Love it there!!!!

From the Guest Journal (and Emails) – Thanks!

Crescendo is a magical place.  Stunning architecture, stylish décor & account for all personal comfort so enhanced our stay here!  We felt totally at home here and were able to relax & forget our troubles.  Proximity to the village and ski in, ski out are amazing features.  We feel very lucky to have experienced the grandeur of Crescendo.  Thanks, Mitch, for creating this paradise at Big White, and for sharing it with us.

What an amazing & beautiful place.  Had an amazing time here celebrating Clint’s 40th birthday. Can’t wait to come here again.

09-16 2012 (Nicole)
Hi Mitchel,

We had an amazing time there, and all our colleagues loved the place. Everything we needed – and more – was there (especially in the kitchen!).

I had to leave earlier than most for my flight on Tuesday – hopefully everything was left okay. I gave Daniel’s number to one of my colleagues to call before she left.

Thanks again for all your help. I’ve “liked” Crescendo on Facebook and will see if we have any good pictures to add!

What a wonder home in such a lovely setting.  Even better that you, our friends shared it with us.  Thank you for wonderful memories and your friendship!

Dad, It’s noing!

.

It’s Snowing!  or, as one guest (age – 3 years old) exclaimed upon seeing snow for the first time, “Dad, It’s noing!”  Lucky kid.  It wasn’t until I was 12 that I saw snow for the first time, and I wasn’t at Crescendo (or in Big White’s champagne powder).

Anyway, Big White has already had 10′ of snow this season, with about 6 of those as the current ski base.  And – even as I write this post, “It’s [still] noing!” at Big White.

Come join us!

A Mountain of Development

Developer Mark Consiglio has ambitious plans for Kelowna Mountain, a 259 hectare (640 acre) piece of property he owns just south of Kelowna City limits above the Upper Mission area.

Consiglio’s vision includes:

  • a world class golf course
  • wineries
  • ski hill
  • mountain bike park
  • suspension bridges
  • commercial amenities, shops and restaurants
  • residential and resort accommodations
An artistic look at one of the suspension bridges

According to lawyer Garry Benson, speaking on behalf of Consiglio, it’s a $2-billion project that will create a couple of thousand construction jobs and 500 permanent jobs.

Benson says Consiglio is ready to proceed.

“The hold up at this point is getting into the Official Community Plan of the Regional District. Rather than have the Community Plan go in as it is, then turn around and later have to amend that plan, it seems like a long drawn out process that isn’t necessary,” says Benson.

“Really what the Regional District has to do is, basically, put us into the Community Plan and then we’ll worry about the development approval process at that time. The reason we’re coming forward now and making application is economics. That’s the biggest dictator.”

Despite the down economy, Benson says the time is right.

“It’s not going to stay down forever. When it does bounce back, that’s when you need to be in position. You don’t need to make the application at the peak of the economy, that doesn’t make any sense.”

He says plans are in the works to meet with Regional Board members including new Okanagan East Area Director, Patty Hansen.

“We are working on fine tuning some of our information. We are hoping to present them a more detailed package.”

Several amenities have already been constructed on the property, including:

  • a 12 run ski hill with a triple chair
  • three suspension bridges, including an 800-foot-long bridge, described as the longest in North America
  • ‘Wine Cave.’

Because the property has not been zoned or included in the OCP, Consiglio can’t make the area available to the general public.

The ski hill was lit up Monday night for a private gathering for friends and family, an occurrence that prompted several calls and emails to the Castanet newsroom.

Ironically, that same night, the Regional Board deferred first reading of the South Slopes Officially Community Plan after receiving  an eight page brief from Consiglio outlining his request and proposal.

Possible options will be outlined for the board to consider at its next meeting February 9.

The brief prepared for the Regional Board by New York legal and business consultant, Michael Boccio, and obtained by Castanet News, is asking the board to consider adding a Kelowna Mountain Recreational Resort Comprehensive Development Zone.

Benson says the development would be world class.

He says one large winery and other smaller ones on the property would be Mondavi wineries, while the golf course would be designed by world renowned Tom Fazio Designs.

“I think it’s a brilliant vision for Kelowna. This is going to change Kelowna. This going to put us on the map,” says Benson.

“We have a good wine industry, but it’s not on the world map the way it should be. We have lots of golf courses, but we don’t have one that puts us on the world map.”

The development would also include 1,200 single family homes and 600 multi-family units.

The document for the Regional Board concluded by stating the additional tax revenues created by the Kelowna Mountain Community would be a windfall to residents of the Central Okanagan East Electoral Area in the form of reduced taxes and would provide an overall net gain to the RDCO.

Meantime, Benson says rumours Donald Trump is in Kelowna in connection with the Kelowna Mountain project are not true, however, he did confirm that Boccio, who is Trump’s former lawyer, is in town.

It’s rumoured there is a chance Trump could become involved in the Kelowna Mountain project at some point.

Hi Mitch –

I have been meaning to send a note for quite some time now, however, with the holiday season I keep getting distracted.

Thank you so much for enabling myself and my guests to have a wonderful time at Crescendo this past November.  The property is absolutely stunning and it was the perfect setting for the party.  Everyone had a fabulous time and we’re in awe of the beautiful home you have created.

Hopefully we can meet some time when you and Dixon are in the Okanagan Valley again.

Happy Holidays & all the best in the New Year.

12-23-2011 (Anellina/Carl)
Mitch/Dixon –

Reflecting again on our week’s stay at Crescendo in early September this past year.  What a place!  We had no idea when we saw it under construction what “mad” technical wizards you were. The TV/Movie room with that incredible 110″ plus screen was a treat. Your sound system is wonderful.  Especially in the Great Room, though, it is to die for. Great state-of-the art Gourmet Kitchen.

We really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor Spa. The steam shower up in the master bath with all those shower heads pointed at you was trick and very relaxing. The 180 degree plus views of the lush tree covered valley below and the mountains off in the distance are wonderful.

We will be very glad to hide out in luggage when you guys come back up in the winter. Lastly, we both felt a wonderful sense of peacefullness and beauty both indoors and out.  A great way to spend our Anniversary.  We love you guys!

Thanks again,
