Big White's L'Alpe de Grande Blanc Cycle Race
A Date for le Diary as Big White does the Tour de France!
Ski Crescendo is pleased to confirm that Big White’s biggest cycle event will return in 2018!
Each year, Big White celebrates the end of the Tour de France cycle race with its own specialized version: the L’Alpe de Grande Blanc!
On 22 July 2018, hundreds of keen road cyclists will again don the lycra and compete to be champions of Big White Mountain’s race.
The ride starts in Kelowna, where riders will take to the saddle and take on the 60km ascent to Big White Village.
In 2017, 205 riders took part in the event, with the winning rider, professional cyclist Jordan Cheyne, clocking a record time of 1:48.10.
An Event for Everyone!
Don’t be intimidated by the few professional participants who are among the minority of the riders. They event is truly is hoot, enjoyed by riders of ALL levels. Adding to the fun, there are refreshments, rest stops, and other motivators along the way, cheering you on throughout your scenic ascent.
As an aside, there’s also a shortened version of the race for juniors: a 9.8km climb from Gem Lake up to Big White Village.
Join the Big White Party!
As those legs start to burn, you’ll be spurred on knowing that a traditionally warm Big White welcome will be awaiting you at the finish line. Live Music, a BBQ, a festival atmosphere, and more!
One doesn’t need to be a rider, though, to join in the fun. The festivities are enjoyed by riders and non-riders alike.
The End of the Day isn't the End of the Fun, Spend the Night With Us
In fact, why not make a weekend of it? Bring the whole family. Better yet, bring some of your family’s friends with you. Crescendo at Big White is large enough to accommodate them all.
Our five-star chalet will be a sight for sore eyes (or legs), and its central location will provide the perfect base for you and your fellow riders. Our hot tub, too, can accommodate your entire group, soothing those aching muscles as you toast to your and/or your family’s/friends’ accomplishments
